About Mario Sergio Calzi
I was born in 1960, in Rosario, Argentina, the largest and the most populous city of the province of Santa Fe. My parents, of Italian origin, emigrated to Argentina at the beginning of the 50's, for a better life.
I grew up in the foundry of my father and when I was 10 years old I started to play with the aluminum, iron and glass. I started painting because my mother always bought me tempera and watercolors and she encouraged me to paint.
When I was 14-15 years old, I began to study afresco techniques and experience on my own. I tried to imitate Michelangelo and get inspiration from my Argentinean favorite painter, Quinquela Martin. At the same time, I learned to weld, to work with metals and I had my first contact with marble. During childhood, I have always built my tools, because I didn't know where to buy them.
When I was 16 years old, I started to work with my father in the building construction, where I learned everything about this area, including the construction of furniture, and I've being doing this job for 10 years.
At the age of 26, I moved to England, London, where with the help of my acquired knowledges, in the previous years (working with 7 types of metals, wood, plastic, glass and rubber) i was able to start my own business. My company has designed, built and decorated various types of shops: restaurants, bars, shopping centers, hotels, shops, in England, Spain, Germany and Italy. My life in England made me get back to painting and many of my paintings are painted there, because in London I always felt like home, I felt integrated, respected and inspired.
During a work project in Italy I met the love, which made me, at age 40, leave England for Italy, where I live today. Like England made me come back to painting, Italy got me turned to sculpture, another passion of mine.
In all these years, regardless of the activities that I've held, the painting has remained my great passion. I like the colors, shades and shapes and everything I manage to build with them. I paint in different styles and techniques, therefore the monotony do not characterize me. In my collection there are over 300 paintings.
I've always been autodidact, I studied the great masters, such as painters and sculptors, I also flanked artisans and persons with various crafts, that no longer exist because of the developing progress of the man.
I do not give a description of my paintings and my sculptures because I want to leave free the imagination and the perception of those who watch, so that everyone discover what my art transmits.
